Accidents involving emergency vehicles are not uncommon.  Search through our Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys Auto Blog and you will see a few accidents involving either fire trucks, ambulances and/or police cars.  This week, just out side of Kansas City in Platte County, Missouri, a head-on collision involving two fire trucks sent five fire fighters to the hospital.  The collision happened on HH Highway.  The pumper trucks were each responding to a structure fire close by.  The wild thing is that both trucks were from the same station and heading from separate directions when they were unable to avoid each other.

Five fire fighters were rushed to the hospital.  One of them was air-lifted because of injuries that were thought to be critical.  While the victims remained hospitalized, none of the injuries were expected to be life-threatening.

An Investigation will uncover an explanation for this crash.  However we must use it as an example of an type of accident that should never happen.  Unfortunately accidents involving emergency vehicles are not unheard of.  Thankfully no other vehicles were involved in this unfortunate accident.  We ask that you always remember that it is our duties as citizens to yield the right of way to the brave men and  women who act in emergency response whether it be to fires, criminal or medical  emergencies.

Emergency vehicles depend on you to be paying attention.  Put away your distractions, keep the music at a reasonable volume and hide the  cell phone.  There is no excuse for being so distracted that you don’t notice a fire truck bearing down.  Failure to pull over and let the emergency vehicle down puts many lives in danger.  Here’ hoping that lives weren’t lost because these men weren’t able to do their jobs.

As experienced Kansas and Missouri Auto  Injury Attorneys we would like to wish a speedy recovery to the brave fire fighters involved in this accident.  We never wish this on anyone, but we can always hope that accidents like this can serve as a harsh reminder as to what dangers can present themselves when not yielding to another vehicle.  We hope in the  future all motorists yield to the  emergency vehicles.
