Can You Pass the GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test? Kansas and Missouri Drivers Do Well

You are here: Home / Auto Accidents / Can You Pass the GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test? Kansas and Missouri Drivers Do Well

The annual GMAC Insurance National Drivers test results are out and it appears that 1 in 5 drivers on the nation’s roads are unable to pass the written drivers test. The good news is that Kansas tops the list nationally with the highest average score of 82.9%.  Missouri follows in at a close 8th in the nation with an average score of 81.3%.  The average score nationwide was 77.9%.

So does a better score on this test make for a better driver?  Although there is no way of tracking that statistic to date, logic says that having more knowledge of the laws of our nation’s roadways would certainly help drivers operate their vehicles more safely.  With that in mind, it appears that men are better drivers than women, with 1 in 4 women failing the test.  The northeast scored the lowest on the test, with the midwest region scoring the highest.  Age appears to be a factor too.  Drivers in the 60-65 age range were the highest scoring of all the age groups.

Want to know how you would fare on the test?  Take the exam yourself at www.nationaldriverstest.com and let us know how you did.  The test is 20 basic questions taken from state Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) exams and just takes a few minutes to complete.

At Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys, we know how much of an impact an auto accident can have on a family.  Medical bills, insurance claims, physical therapy, etc., can mount causing major problems for those involved.  Let’s see if we can continue to lead the nation with high scores on driving tests and reduce the number of accidents on our Kansas City roadways!  Be sure to give us your feedback on the test!

Rumble Strips Helping Protect Missouri Motorists from Serious Injury Accidents

Rumble strips have helped decrease fatal injury accidents on Missouri Highways according to MoDOT.

Every now and then we are delighted to bring you good news about auto accident fatalities in Missouri.  This time its’ coming from MoDot, whose officials are saying that the number of auto fatalities caused by drivers going off the road has dropped over the past few years thanks to rumble strips.  Rumble strips are uneven sections of pavement on the side of highways that will help a driver see and feel where the side of the road is at night and during bad weather.  When tires them, they vibrate and create a sound that hopefully jolts the driver back to focus to hopefully prevent Missouri motorists from driving off the road and crashing.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), nearly 250 people died in these types of accidents last year, which is a significant drop from the nearly 700 in 2005.  Overall, 818 people died in fatal car accidents on Missouri highways in 2010, which represents the lowest number of deaths in nearly 50 years.

We know that as long as people are driving and capable of human error then car accidents are always going to be a dangerous problem.  Our experienced Kansas City Auto Injury Attorneys are certainly encouraged by these numbers and hope transportation officials in both Kansas and Missouri look into adding these rumble strips to all major highways.  If they’re working, lets spread them around and really bring those fatality numbers down.  As we mentioned before, distracted driving and drowsy driving can lead to fatal crashes and these rumble strips can absolutely make a difference.

Higher Speed Limits in Kansas and Missouri Could Mean More Accident Fatalities

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Everything is always bigger in Texas.  At least that’s what they say but if the great state of Texas has it’s way, they’re about to become the fastest, too.  The Texas Senate is scheduled to vote on whether or not to increase speed limits.  If the legislation passes, some Texas highways will see an increase in speed limits to 85 m.p.h.  Some highways are already traveling at 80 m.p.h.

Raising speed limits in Kansas and Missouri may lead to more serious injury accidents and fatalities.

For the record, in Kansas and Missouri, the top speed limit on a highway maxes out at 70, which falls in line for most states in the U.S.

The idea of boosting the speed limits may be a reason for many commuters to celebrate, especially if you’re making the drive from Lawrence to Kansas City or coming in from Platte County.  Being able to kick that needle up a few degrees on the odometer would help you to get to work and home faster.  Besides, most people are speeding already, so why not make it legal?

Here is something that you may not be thinking of though.  Higher speeds could and probably will dramatically increase the number of fatal injury accidents.  Let’s say Kansas and Missouri join the speed coalition and boost the speed limit  to 85.  How many motorists are doing the math to realized they would have to hit the brakes at around 120 feet to come to a complete stop?  That’s assuming your breaks are in tip top shape.  They you have to worry about the guy behind you– and the guy behind him– and the truck driver behind him– and so on and so on.

Our experienced Kansas City Auto Injury Lawyers want to remind you that every year, nearly 11,000 people die in speed related crashes which makes up a shocking 1/3 of all auto injury crashes.  We want you to be safe on the highways.  I-70 can be dangerous enough as it is.  Pushing the speed limit, or making it legal, isn’t going to make the roads any safer.

Drive Safe.  Drive Smart.  Keep our Kansas and Missouri roads safe for everyone.
