The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has released early estimates for motor vehicle accident deaths in 2010. These estimates show that 32,788 people died in car and truck wrecks on U.S. highways in 2010. If this estimate holds true, this means the number of fatalities dropped 3% from 2009. The number of automobile related deaths have steadily declined since 2005 dropping 25% from 2005 to 2010. This reduction is likely due to an increase in the use of seat belts and car seats, safer automobiles and increased traffic law enforcement.
