An absolutely tragic accident occurred on Thursday evening, which left one person dead and four others critically injured. The accident took place on the Far North Side of Chicago, in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, on the 2900 block of West Howard Street, at the Evanston border.

Reportedly, at least five ambulances were sent to the scene of the crash, according to a media source. Fire officials reported that the injured individuals were taken to Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

The Chicago Tribune reported the crash before all the details were available, but provided one minute and thirty seconds of un-narrated video footage. The footage shows a midsized sedan which looks like it is partially wrapped around a tree, particurlarly in the area where the driver's seat used to be. Additionally, the footage captures the car encircled with police tape, with no other cars nearby, it thus appears to have been a single car crash.

Car crash on North Shore of Chicago kills 1, critically injures another

An Illinois auto accident in suburban Northfield has claimed the life of a 22-year-old Chicago woman, Winnetka Talk is reporting. Another person was seriously injured in the collision that occurred on Friday.

The accident occurred at 2220 Willow Road. Northfield police are stating that the woman was eastbound on Willow when she crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck a westbound driver head-on.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Evanston Hospital and pronounced dead hours later. The driver of the other vehicle, a 63 year old Glenview man, was also taken to Evanston Hospital. He was in critical condition.

The Northfield Police Department is being assisted by the Major Crash Assistance Team, which is a joint operation run by several suburban departments. The collision is still under investigation and it has not yet been reported if drugs or alcohol played a role.

The Glenview Patch is reporting that the accident occurred around 8 pm and that Willow Road remained closed due to the accident late into the night.

3 men critically injured in Seattle hit-and-run car accident

Seattle's KIRO TV.com reports that three men were critically injured in a Seattle car accident on Rainier Avenue South around just before 3am on Saturday morning when the SUV they were riding in collided with a Honda Civic and all three men were thrown from the SUV.

According to the report, police responded to a 911 emergency call and found three critically injured men lying in the middle of the roadway. A wrecked black Honda Civic was on a nearby curb. The driver of the SUV had fled the accident scene. All three injured men were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police believe the driver of the SUV crossed the center line and hit the Honda head-on in the 9600 block. The driver of the SUV then fled the accident scene. Police later located the SUV at the Atlantic City boat ramp. They took the driver to Harborview to test for the presence of drugs and alcohol.

The article did not say if the two people in the Honda, both women, were injured in the motor vehicle accident.

Hopefully, the three injured men recover from their injuries. The driver of the SUV faces serious charges including Vehicular Assault and felony hit-and run. Vehicular Assault, RCW 46.61.522, can be charged if someone is seriously injured in a car accidents and the driver was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Bicyclist critically injured in Seattle hit-and-run bicycle accident

A male bicyclist in his 30s was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a critical head injury after being hit by a red van that then fled the scene of the bicycle accident.

The Seattle Bike Blog said the accident occurred about 7pm on Monday as the bicyclist was riding northbound in the outside lane in the 2200 block of 1st Avenue and Blanchard Streets in Belltown.

Witnesses described the vehicle that hit the cyclist as a 1990s red minivan. The van was also traveling northbound. Hopefully police will locate the van's driver who could face charges of felony hit-and-run, Washington Vehicle Code RCW 46.52.020.

Approximately two percent of motor vehicle accident deaths are bicyclists. In 2009, there were 630 fatal bicycle accidents and 549 of those were male and 81 were female. In 91% of fatal accidents, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet despite the fact that they reduce head injury risk by 85%. In Washington state there were 7.4 bicycle accident deaths per 100,000 people in 2009.
