Woman Runs Into Building With Car, Injures Baby

Thursday, April 3, 2014
0 comments

A woman in Skokie hit the gas instead of the brake and it caused her to run into the front of a building that houses a cleaners, according to local authorities. Fortunately no one was killed but a baby that was in the store was injured and needed medical attention. Two other people were also hurt.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Skokie. The cleaners is located in the 4000 block of Golf Road, just west of the intersection with Crawford Avenue. The cleaners is part of a strip mall with one row of parking out front. Authorities have not said if the driver was parked before the crash but they have stated that no charges have been filed related to this incident.

It appears that the woman drove into a section of the front of the store that contained a glass entry door and a large glass window. The building, which is made of brick, reportedly sustained some damage. At the time of the crash, several people were inside the cleaners, including the owner, the owner's father, the owner's stepmother, and a baby. The baby was being held by the owner's stepmother when the car came crashing in. The impact of the collision pushed the baby from the woman's arms and caused the baby to fall underneath the car. The father of the baby was not in the cleaners at the time but responded to the collision. He backed up the car to free the baby and it appeared that the child was not hit by any of the car's tires. The baby was, however, face down in the wreckage of what used to be the glass window and door. The baby was taken to an area hospital where doctors stated the baby suffered only minor injuries but would observe the baby for some time. Reports indicate that two other people suffered injuries. It is not clear whether one of those injured was the driver of the car.

It is not yet clear what caused the woman to press the gas pedal instead of the brake. Authorities have chosen not to release the age of the driver, allowing some in the area to speculate that she may be elderly. But accidents of this type are caused by drivers of all ages, not just the elderly. Being distracted while behind the wheel can increase the risk of accidentally traveling in an unintended direction as can simple negligence. Some of the biggest forms of distraction faced by Illinois drivers include cell phones, texting, eating or drinking, conversations with passengers, children and pets in the car, and even daydreaming. Whatever the cause, if a driver is not completely focused on the road, the driver is distracted and the chances of causing a collision increase significantly.

If you have been hurt in an accident where a driver was distracted or not paying attention, call the Chicago car accident lawyers at Abels & Annes, P.C. today for a no obligation telephone consultation. We can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (312) 924-7575 and the call is free. Let us help you get a recovery you deserve for your injuries.

Illinois Woman Celebrates End of DUI Penalties By Drinking and Driving

Wednesday, November 6, 2013
0 comments

A 58-year-old Brookfield woman was arrested for driving under the influence on Friday in Riverside. When asked by police officers, the woman informed them that she had been celebrating earlier in the evening because she got her driver's licence back after a conviction for driving under the influence last fall.

The woman was pulled over for speeding but later tests revealed her blood alcohol content to be 0.155, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08. She is facing charges for felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and may face incarceration as a result.

The responding officer ran a check on the woman's license and learned that it was still suspended from her prior conviction, despite her claims to the contrary. As part of her prior sentence, a breath-alcohol ignition interlock device was reportedly installed in her car. The device requires a driver to exhale into a collection tube before the car can be started. If the presence of alcohol is detected on the driver's breath, the vehicle will not start. However in this case, it appears the woman was driving someone else's car that did not have a breath-alcohol ignition interlock device installed, allowing her to drive even with her high blood alcohol content.

Illinois law presumes that any driver with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher is driving under the influence of alcohol and is impaired. This is the level that applies to the general population though specific types of drivers may face more stringent requirements. For example, drivers under the age of 21 and bus drivers are not allowed any alcohol in their system when driving while the limit for commercial drivers is a blood alcohol content of 0.04. According to the Illinois Secretary of State, the average driver arrested for driving under the influence is male, 34 years old, arrested between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. on a weekend, and possesses a blood alcohol content of 0.16 - twice the legal limit.

Drunk drivers are less aware of their surroundings and have slower reaction times, making them a danger to all drivers on the roads. They can be responsible for collisions with other vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, or even pedestrians that may result in injuries or death. If you have been injured by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs, call the Illinois drunk driving injury attorneys at Abels & Annes, P.C. today for a consultation regarding your case. You may have a claim for your personal injuries and any lost wages you sustained as a result of the collision. If you have been injured or if a loved one has been injured or killed, call us today at (312) 924-7575 or toll free at (855) 529-2442. Woman Killed After Man Leaves Car Running, Son Accidentally Puts it in Gear

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
0 comments

Authorities believe a 58-year-old woman was in the wrong place at the wrong time when she was killed on a Thursday morning. The woman was walking on a sidewalk in the 4400 block of South Saint Louis Avenue in the Brightton Park neighborhood when a truck crashed through a garage and struck her.

Police say that a pickup truck was loaded with construction materials or metal scraps as it sat in an alley. The driver exited the truck with the truck in park to pick up something from the alley. Witnesses state that the driver's son, a 13-year-old boy, was in the truck and accidentally put the truck in gear as he sat in the front passenger seat. The truck began to roll forward, prompting the 13-year-old to climb into the driver's seat and attempt to stop the truck. Though he attempted to use the brake pedal, the teen hit the gas instead, sending the truck flying into a garage. The truck crashed through the garage and struck the woman on the other side.

The truck crossed the street and then hit another garage before colliding with a brick wall, where it came to a rest. Authorities were called and emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Mt. Sinai Hospital where she underwent treatment for several hours before dying of her injuries in the early afternoon.

The driver of the car received citations for leaving a vehicle unattended while running and for driving on a suspended or revoked license. At this point, there is no indication that the teen will face any charges but authorities state that they are still investigating the incident.

Accidents can happen to anyone on any given day. But describing incidents like this one as accidents is not absolutely accurate in many cases. Here, there is no indication that either the man or his son intended to hurt anyone, including the female victim, but that is exactly what happened. Though the driver may have not had ill will towards the woman, by leaving his truck running in an alley and by letting his unlicensed son to remain in the truck where the son could operate the vehicle, the driver risked the safety of others in the area. Additionally, the driver at issue did not have a valid license at the time of the crash and therefore could not legally drive, yet he chose to drive anyway. Even after the state of Illinois determined that he was not legally allowed to drive, the man determined that he could get behind the wheel and drive anyway. His actions created a dangerous situation that cost an innocent woman her life.

Regardless of what happens with the man's traffic or criminal charges brought by the state, the surviving family members of the victim may be able to bring a civil claim for their losses. These claims are often referred to as wrongful death cases and they allow families to obtain financial compensation for their losses, including the loss of companionship they are forced to endue as the result of their loved one's death.

If your loved one has been the victim of an accident, you may be able to obtain relief for your losses. Woman Hit & Severely Injured by Car in Downtown San Diego

Sunday, September 8, 2013

At 8:15 a.m., a 20-year-old female pedestrian was hit by a truck while walking in the intersection of A Street & 10th Avenue on February 27, 2013. According to the police, a male driver in his 30s was driving a red Dodge truck and hit the women while making a left turn onto A Street.

The woman was trapped underneath the truck for a brief moment, which resulted in a fractured pelvis. The truck driver did stop at the scene and the police was able to rule out alcohol and/or drug influence.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher stated that the female pedestrian was suffering with life-threatening injuries and was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment. We all have her in our thoughts and want to wish her family and friends strength during her fight to recuperate from the accident.

Mornings on the road can be a very busy time for many drivers and pedestrians that are either making their way to work, trying to get to school, and so on. During rush hour times, we all need to be more cautious while driving since the impact of a pedestrian accident has a much worst outcome on the pedestrian than your car.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), there are about 1,000 people in San Diego County that are injured in a pedestrian accident a year. The CHP also reported that about 60 people die a year in San Diego County as a result of a pedestrian accident.

Let’s make San Diego a safer place by driving cautious during peak driving hours to prevent pedestrian accidents from injury and/or death.

San Diego’s most reliable pedestrian accident attorneys at the Jurewitz Law Group are here to support you through the accident. Call (888) 233-5020 for a free and confidential case evaluation. Let us help you get back on your feet.

Single Vehicle Accident in Unincorporated Stickney Kills Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child

Friday, June 7, 2013
0 comments

A single vehicle crash that occurred recently in unicorporated Stickney has left a 24-year-old woman and the unborn child she was carrying dead, it is being reported.

According to a spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff's department, the accident occurred on the 4900 block of South Central Avenue at approximately 7:40 in the evening, on March 22. The woman was travelling northbound on Central Avenue in her Pontiac G6 when she hit a mailbox on the northeast side of the street, which caused her vehicle to spin around and hit a metal pole located on the same corner.

The woman and her unborn child were pronounced dead at about 8:30 p.m. at Loyola University Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Officials said that an accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash, and that no one else was in the vehicle.

Tragically, fatal one car accidents such as this one occur much too frequently within the greater Chicago area. The causes of these single vehicle collisions can include anything from a malfunctioning motor vehicle, unexpected obstructions in the roadway, inclement weather conditions, and even over-correcting one's vehicle in order to avoid another crash. Additionally, a distracted driver or otherwise impaired motorist can also be the cause of these types of accidents.

For example, in 2011 alone, across the State of Illinois, more than half of the 918 fatal traffic collisions involved only one motor vehicle. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggests that a large proportion of those one-car traffic accidents occur in larger urban areas like Chicago.

If you were injured in a car accident, you should contact a car accident lawyer in order to discuss your rights and remedies. You might be able to recover damages from the negligent motorist related to the cost of your medical care, which can include medical bills, physical therapy, and lost wages from work, as well as for any resulting disability. Additionally recoverable expenses can include things such as pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and more.

Vacations are supposed to be fun and relaxing.  The last thing you’d expect or want for that matter, is to end up in a hospital as the victim of a serious injury accident.  But that’s just what happened for a woman from Wichita, Kansas, who was seriously injured when she was hit in the head by a truck while sun bathing on a beach in Daytona, Florida.

The truck was being driven by a 21 year-old lifeguard.  He had been  flagged by another beach goer, who reported some broken glass.  The accident happened when the lifeguard made a u-turn to investigate.  The area of the beach is not a designated sunbathing area.  An investigation will be conducted.

Our experienced Kansas City Auto Injury Attorneys always want you to be safe.  This is a tricky situation and should be interesting to see where the fault lies in this case.  The lifeguard should know to always be on the look out for sunbathers but if this report is correct, the woman probably shouldn’t have been sunbathing on this part of the beach.  Remember beaches have signs posted to let you know where you can safely enjoy yourself.

Woman Injured In Anaheim Three-Vehicle Crash

Monday, August 15, 2011

Posted On: June 27, 2011 by Ross Jurewitz

An unidentified woman was injured in a serious three-vehicle crash that occurred on June 22, 2011, around 6:07 a.m. near Anaheim High School. The multiple-car accident involved three vehicles: a Honda sedan, a Nissan Frontier and a Ford Focus.

Firefighters had to remove a woman from the Focus. Fortunately, the other two drivers did not have any injuries.

From the present information, it is unclear what caused this major car accident. Since the collision involved three cars, any of the drivers could have been responsible for causing the auto accident. It would be interesting for the investigating officers to determine whether any of the drivers were driving under the influence of alcohol or any other drug. Though the investigation is in process, the victims should consult an Orange County car accident lawyer who would assure that they obtain timely and fair compensation to cover the cost of hospitalization, medical costs, loss of wages, and other accident-related damages.

Our personal injury law office sincerely hopes that the injuries suffered by the victim heal soon.

This is a scary thing to face as a Kansas City motorist.  It’s early, still dark and you’re heading home or maybe to work on a busy highway, when you see someone stumbling along the highway on foot– but in a shocking development, that’t sadly what early morning commuters were faced with a few days ago on their way to work.

A 25 year-old Topeka, Kansas woman was hit and killed while on foot on Interstate 29 in Kansas City, Missouri.  The fatal pedestrian-auto accident happened around 4:15 a.m. according to Kansas City Police, who say the woman was trying to cross the highway at Tiffany Springs Parkway when she was struck by as many as six different vehicles.

As Kansas City Pedestrian Injury Lawyers, we are deeply saddened by the tragic death in this unfortunate accident.  We hope in the future, everyone in Kansas and Missouri takes time to remember the absolute danger you are facing when you try and cross a highway on foot.  Those vehicles are moving way too fast to predict the time you need to cross.  Always assume it’s never enough and find a safe way to cross.

If you or someone you love have suffered a serious injury in an automobile or pedestrian injury accident you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  Call experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Attorney James Roswold.  With over 15 years of experience in Auto Injury Accidents including Pedestrian Injury cases, we may be able to help you and your family get through this difficult time.

80-year-old Zada Louise Fields was killed San Bernardino car accident that occurred on May 23, 2011, around 2:35 p.m. along State Route 66 (US-66) deep in the Mojave Desert. According to CHP, Fields’ 2010 Chevy Aveo drifted towards the shoulder of the road and overturned when she tried to steer it back.

From the available information, it is unclear what made the victim lose control of the vehicle and roll over 50 miles west of the Colorado River city of Needles. The investigation is still being conducted. If the loss of control was due to uneven road or a mechanical failure, Fields’ family may be entitled to compensation. These types of claims are factually specific and require an immediate and detailed investigation performed by trained experts managed by a skilled personal injury lawyer. Any delay in the investigation may result in the loss of key pieces of evidence.

The family members of Fields should consult with an experienced San Bernardino County personal injury attorney, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable.

Chicago car accident lawyer to represent woman injured on the North Side

Thursday, June 9, 2011

An Illinois injury attorney at Abels & Annes has entered into an agreement to represent a Chicago woman that was injured in a May, 2011 car crash. The incident took place in the area of Milwaukee Avenue & Austin. The plaintiff's vehicle was rear-ended by another car in traffic.

The collision was actually witnessed by a Chicago police officer who happened to be in the area. That officer handled the investigation.

Our client had an immediate onset of neck and low back pain after the accident. She was seen a short time later at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. There she was diagnosed with neck and back sprain/strain.

Over the coming days the plaintiff's pain only increased. She sought follow-up treatment with both her primary physician and a chiropractor. The chiro started her on a course of therapy.

Unfortunately, the treatment did not help relieve her pain and she is now under the care of an orthopedic medical doctor in the Chicago area.

Our office will be pursuing a negligence claim against the at-fault driver and her insurance carrier.

If you've been hurt in an Illinois auto accident, contact a Chicago personal injury lawyer at Abels & Annes for a free case evaluation. Contact us online or call 312-399-8988 to speak to a attorney directly.

Nohemi Dusina, 52, suffered critical injuries in a solo auto accident that occurred on May 3, 2011, around 1:30 p.m. at South Rannells Boulevard and 32nd Avenue in Blythe in Riverside County. According to the responding California Highway Patrol Officers, Dusina was immediately airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs to receive medical treatment for the injuries suffered.

One can imagine numerous reasons behind the auto accident. Only a detailed investigation involving law enforcement and accident reconstructionists can determine the exact cause of the accident. Police Cruiser Hits Woman in Wheel Chair; Kansas City Pedestrian Safety a Concern

0

There are many reasons serious auto injury accidents happen, but distracted driving continues to be one of the most common causes of serious injury accidents.  If motorists aren’t paying attention, it becomes hard to spot the little obstacles that can cause accidents such as pedestrians and bicyclists.  The important thing to remember is that anyone can be guilty of distracted driving and if driving is part of your job– whether you are a delivery driver– or, as in this case, a police officer– paying attention is absolutely crucial as you can often be distracted maybe a little more easily.

Take this case that happened in Dayton, Ohio.  A 50 year-old woman in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street.  Pedestrian accidents are not uncommon but what makes this pedestrian injury accident different was that the woman was hit by a police cruiser.  According to reports from the scene, the officer was responding to a non-emergency near by.  He was traveling at a normal rate of speed but did not have his sirens or lights on.  The woman suffered serious injuries that have been down graded to non-life threatening injuries.  The officer involved in the crash was shake up but is okay.

The real tragedy here is that accidents like this one can be avoided.  Distracted Driving is very dangerous and many people don’t realize how distracted they can get while driving.  Anything you do that takes your eyes off the road is an example of dangerous driving.  This includes cell phone talking and texting and even casual conversation with passengers.

The experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys of Roswold Law Group are happy to hear that the victims are expected to be okay but this is surely an especially frightening situation.  Pedestrians have rights when they are involved in an accident.  This is a rare situation but just goes to show that everyone, including emergency crews such as police officers and ambulance drivers, needs to use attentive and safe driving techniques.  As we said before, delivery drivers or police officers, like in this case can often become distracted looking for a suspect or just their destination.  Keep your eyes on the road and help keep the roads safe for everyone.

An unidentified woman believed to be in her 40s was killed in a serious rollover car accident that occurred on April 12, 2011, around 12:54 a.m. at Railroad Avenue and Main Street in Cabazon in Riverside County, approximately 88 miles from San Diego. Officer Jaci Parent said that a big rig driver noticed an overturned silver color Mitsubishi Eclipse and informed the authorities.

According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, the exact cause of this fatal car accident remains under investigation. There are several possibilities to explain the accident. Was it a hit-and-run accident? Was any other person involved in this accident? Was she driving under influence? Was there a violation of speed or any other traffic rues? Was there a mechanical failure? These and several other questions are unanswered as of yet. Only a detailed investigation supervised by an expert accident lawyer can determine the cause of the accident.

It is therefore advised that the victim’s family members should consult with an experienced car accident lawyer in Riverside County to find out about their legal rights and options. The consulting lawyer can also help the family to obtain compensation to pay for funeral and burial costs, loss of anticipated income, and loss of love and companionship and other related damages.

We hope that the friends and family of the deceased woman can find peace and, hopefully, turn this loss into a moment to bond and reflect with their other loved ones. Losing a friend or family member is always tough.

Woman Killed After Being Thrown from Vehicle

A woman from Altoona, Pennsylvania was killed this weekend in a car accident. The woman was a passenger in a van with a male friend and her two children. The man lost control of the van while driving. The minivan went over a median and then rolled down an embankment several times before coming to a stop, reports a NY Car Accident Lawyer. Unfortunately, the man and woman were not wearing seatbelts. If they had been wearing seatbelts, this tragedy may have been avoided. While may have suffered injuries, these injuries may not have been life threatening.
The man, woman and her two children were traveling on Route 22 on a Sunday afternoon when the accident occurred. They were about 5 miles outside the town of Blairsville, Pennsylvania. It is not known where they were traveling to or why the accident occurred in the first place, a New York Injury Lawyer indicated.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been thrown from the vehicle and died from blunt force trauma to the head. She had been sitting in the passenger seat when the accident happened. The man remains in serious condition at a local hospital. The accident took place in Burrell, Pennsylvania which is located in Indiana County. The children, both girls, aged 2 years and 20 months were uninjured. Both children were in child safety seats, claims a New York Car Accident Lawyer. After a brief visit to the hospital, both children were released into the custody of family members.
The man is in serious condition and may not be released from the hospital for some time. The severity of his injuries is unknown. The reason the man lost control of the minivan remains a mystery. The man, who lives in Altoona, is recovering at a hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Funeral arrangements have been made for the woman, as reported by a New York Injury Lawyer, at a local funeral home. It is unknown at this time whether family, friends or the father of the children will be responsible for caring for the children from now on.

National Guard Troops Save Man and Woman after Car Accident

National Guard troops pulled a man and woman from a car moments before it caught on fire. The vehicle hit the center divider on the highway and overturned. National Guard troops were on the same road traveling to Buckley Air Force Base when they spotted the overturned car. The man and woman involved did not sustain any serious injuries. Police are currently investigating the incident and plan on issuing the driver a ticket. The incident caused traffic to back up for a few hours while clean-up crews came to remove the vehicle, reports a New York Car Accident Attorney.
After rescuing the man and woman, the men performed first aid using materials they had from a combat first aid kit. The accident happened early Sunday morning. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries have been reported. Witnesses to the accident reported the National Guard troops were able to save the man and woman and attend to any wounds present before medical help arrived, noted a New York Injury Lawyer. The man and woman were being well cared for by the time paramedics arrived on the scene.
It is unclear where the man and woman were going when the accident occurred. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Airport Boulevard in Aurora, Colorado when it hit the center divider. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Vehicle malfunction and motorist error are common causes for these types of accidents, a NYC Car Accident Lawyer explained.
Luckily, the National Guard troops were traveling on the same stretch of road as the couple. If no one had been around to help them, the man and woman may not have escaped uninjured. With few motorists on the road that early in the morning, the couple could have remained trapped in the vehicle. It is unclear if the driver will face additional charges or if this will be considered an accident without holding the driver legally responsible since no other vehicles were involved, according to a New York City Injury Lawyer. Further investigation will be needed to determine whether the drive should face other charges.
